Harry Lunch

Quick sketch, Then fully realized ink thanks to an idea from my girlfriend Tammy.  She wanted to see Harry having lunch with the animals; I'm lazy, so here is Harry having lunch with a single animal.  Actually, to show Harry's nature (and add a little humor) he just can't say no to a hungry creature in need, so he is giving the Iguana his lunch.

Harry Handler sprite

Here is the first (and only) sprite I've done so far...and ever.  Using a beta prog called Pixen (which crashes alot and is buggy as hell, but free :) I finished this late last night.  I really like it, I can see alot of work ahead to get this game off the ground, but this was a fun and interesting process, so I'm motivated.

Harry Handler Characters

Ok, so I fought with myself whether to post this or not, and so far a friend and I from H.S. has been collaborating (or at least kicking the idea around) about developing an app for an ANDROID or comparable mobile device/smart phone.  He has the computer know-how and by default I have the artistic talent (we'll see how that goes).  I came up with "Harry Handler" a touch game based on our main zoo handler Harry.  Because this is a work in progress I hesitate to reveal too much to both of my followers' however, I'd hate to see this idea done by someone else and kick myself for not keeping a lid on it at least until I get further into the project...Like say, an actual game screen with pixels! Rest assured that I've played many a time killing app (my pod is bursting at the seams with them) and I think we have something here, or at least a jumping point.  Part of what sells an app are the character designs coupled with the game mechanics and addictiveness; SO here are my main characters so far.  Harry, the lead, Professor Kitten (the damsel in distress) and the antagonist Mortimer.  Yes, he's a super smart yellow gorilla.  DEAL WITH IT.

Kino Matsumoto sketch

Long story short, I've been a lazy bum. People have asked where my BPB updates are and honestly, I don't have an excuse. I missed my deadline to put out my book and although sore about it, I know that I still have the passion to pursue my idea and I'm still in love with Rear naked Choke as a book or even animated series one day (I hope) that said, here is a digital sketch of my main character Kino matsumoto done in Sketchbook pro.

BPB-Episode 7 "Life Saving Alcohol"

Hiya,

'Tis the season to be frustrated by outside influences, mainly my hectic life and I've definitely been doing that! I have not been updating regularly and to be honest, I'm going to have to change focus and concentrate on the comic anthology that I'm planning to be a part of with my friend Humphrey Ching.  Another pal of mine, the infamous exploitation director Sean Weathers ran an idea by me about creating a comic to accompany his guerilla marketing scheme to promote his new films.  I would if I had the time, it seems like alot of guilty fun.  I worked on some of the covers to Sean's DVD's and it was a mixed bag; in short, we clashed on certain ideas and he found some other schmuck to replace my genius...no love lost though, Sean is just like that.  Oh, there's a zombie in this one, maybe as an homage to the first season of The Walking Dead; maybe not.

BPB-Episode 6 "After school special"

Sorry for hiatus, but it gets harder to post these things when I'm swamped with work.  Halloween came and went and now we're coming up on Turkey day.  Time is flying like never before, but I'm trying...

BPB-Episode 5 "Octopus Ink Lager"

Better late then never eh? (nervous laugh).  I threw an octopus in this one, why not? Octopi are cool as shit. My co-worker Vincent Martone had the truly genius idea of putting ink in a watercolor brush pen, and after a week of trying to find one, another co-worker Frank advised me of Dick Blick off of Lafayette st.  I went there after work and bought two, a medium and a small and some generic "black cat" ink.  The small brush wasn't great because of restricted flow; ink is thicker than water, but the medium brush seems to have worked out, I just have to get the hang of it.

BPB-Episode 4 "Fatal Attraction"

Okay I penciled this Saturday, inked it Sunday and here it is.  I've also worked on the script for part of a comic anthology with a friend of mine from College and a few others.  My comic is called Rear Naked Choke, and I'm having a blast writing and developing the characters and story.  I'll keep you posted.

Sketch-A-Day: Juniper

Okay, so I been bitching about putting up a sketch a day to beef up the blog and to shake the dust off.  Drawing gets tricky when I work ( 9:30 AM to 6 PM clutching a pen tool all day and I'm very sure that somewhere down the line I might develop arthritis of the hands (it runs in my family) but then again, I can't stick a cattle prod in the ass of my art career without drawing...so....long story short I was penciling the next BPB installment when my cat Juniper jumped on my art table like she often does.  The little kitty looked so cute sitting there that I was moved to grab an ink pen and just do some quick sketches.  I also snapped a few pics, she was in rare form.  Even as I type this Juni has her head on my laptop, she simply has to get into whatever I do.  May become a problem when I start painting again...

BPB-Episode 3 "Drink of Choice"

So I broke out the ol' dip pen and Higgins Calligraphy ink for this one, the process was slow, but well worth it, the variety of thick to thin I got was amazing.  Unfortunately, the scan doesn't do it justice as is often the case.  I'm trying to update more frequently, however, my year old puppy literally bit the hand that feeds him on Labor day and my index and middle finger became swollen.  I'm sure inking/coloring for the FP style guide didn't help either; but a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do.  I'm contemplating posting a sketch a day or something to keep the blog fresh.

BPB Episode 2 "The Last Shot"

As I say hello to my single follower (I'm not doing this for the acclaim), Here is the second installment on Brown Paper Bag the art anthology.  This one gets a little deep and the western time period was fun to draw especially while listening to the Red Dead Redemption soundtrack by Bill Elm & Woody Jackson.  Great stuff, and like Ennio Morricone it fits the period well but also has a modern twist to it.  I'm always amazed at how much like a rattlesnake that rattle instrument sounds....LoL.  The end is open to interpretation and I'm doing that on purpose.  Emitting dialog helps, as each person will inadvertently inject their own back-story and outcome.

Brown Paper Bag Episode1 "Three Bird's Gin"

I'm new to the blog thing, but I wanted to find a way to continually post scribbles and recent things I've been working on in a speedy fashion.  Instead of putting up old works, I wanted to start something blog specific.  On a train ride from brooklyn into manhattan I spotted a well dressed gentleman sitting holding a brown paper bag in one hand and Buddhist prayer beads in the other.  My mind began to race at all the wonderful and tragic associations a brown paper bag can have on the individual holding one and the mystery of what can be contained inside.  There is a certain stigma attached to the everyday object. I decided to work on something I can update fast that will share a common theme, and so Brown paper bag the art anthology begins...
